TM Capital Opens Atlanta Office
October 2001 | News & PressAtlanta, GA, October 30, 2001 – TM Capital Corp., a private New York-based merchant banking and financial advisory firm, has opened its Southeastern office in Atlanta. The office, located at Two Piedmont Center in Buckhead, is the 12-year-old firm’s first full-service location outside of New York. TM Capital, which is focused on completing mergers, acquisitions and financings for mid-sized privately held and publicly traded companies, has completed more than 100 transactions for its clients with a combined value of $5 billion. Jim Grien, who was most recently head of corporate finance for Prudential Securities Inc., will lead the new office.
“We are very excited about the team we have in place to build the Atlanta office,” says W. Gregory Robertson, TM Capital’s president. “Bringing Jim and his team on board not only gives us a wealth of investment banking experience, but also represents a major step in the continuing growth of our firm. Together we will provide a unique blend of focus, experience and resources to the Atlanta and Southeastern business community,” he added.
In fact, TM Capital enters the Atlanta market with a great deal of momentum – announcing three significant transactions involving local companies — Alpharetta-based Wolf Camera, Inc., Norcross-based Immucor, Inc. (NASDAQ:BLUD) and Atlanta-based EarthLink, Inc. (NASDAQ:ELNK). TM Capital advised Wolf Camera, Inc. on its recently completed sale to Ritz Camera Centers, Inc.; completed a debt restructuring for Immucor, Inc.; and is advising CIDCO Inc. (NASDAQ:CDCO) on its pending sale to EarthLink.
Prior to joining TM Capital in 2001, Grien was managing director and head of corporate finance at Prudential Securities Investment Banking. During his 12 years at Prudential, Grien built several business units within the investment bank and was responsible for a diverse group of middle market consumer and industrial client relationships, which resulted in many of the firm’s highest profile principal, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and public equity and debt transactions. Prior to joining Prudential Securities, Grien was a vice president in the Investment Banking Group of Thomson McKinnon Securities Inc.
“After spending virtually my entire career working for a large Wall Street firm, my goal was to join an organization that brings world class expertise and capabilities to the middle market, while remaining responsive to the unique challenges faced by mid-sized companies,” said Grien, a shareholder of the firm. “The three transactions we’ve just announced in the Atlanta market clearly illustrate the breadth of our resources and the quality of our execution capabilities, particularly in challenging circumstances,” he added.
Grien is joined in Atlanta by Alex Mammen, who brings almost 10 years of experience in financial services. Prior to joining TM Capital, Mammen was a vice president in the Investment Banking Group at Prudential Securities where he worked with a variety of public and private companies on acquisitions, exclusive sales, capital raising and restructurings. He has extensive experience in retailing, consumer products, manufacturing, and outsourcing services.
